Adaptive Learning was an Innovate UK-supported R&D project exploring how immersive technology could improve healthcare communication and understanding. The project connected VR, WebGL and real-time backend systems to create more adaptive learning experiences for practitioners and patients, combining immersive visualisation, interactive 3D tools and connected multi-device workflows.
develop an adaptive immersive learning prototype that could make complex healthcare communication more visual, interactive and personalised.
supported through an Innovate UK Creative Catalyst R&D project, the aim was to explore how VR, WebGL and connected backend systems could work together to support responsive learning experiences.
we developed a connected immersive system linking a patient-facing VR experience with a practitioner-controlled WebGL interface and scalable backend infrastructure.
the platform allowed practitioners to guide experiences externally using browser-based tools, helping avoid the practical limitations of interacting directly inside a headset.
features included adaptive content playlists, interactive questionnaires, real-time 3D presentations and a body pose manipulation tool used to explain posture, movement and anatomical layers visually.
the project combined immersive 3D content, WebSocket communication, backend systems, UI design and healthcare-focused interaction workflows.
the final prototype demonstrated how connected immersive experiences could support clearer communication between practitioners and patients through visual, spatial and interactive learning.
the project established a scalable foundation for future connected VR and WebGL systems supporting adaptive training, patient education and remote guidance.
